About Derek Wheeler
Derek was raised in Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University in 2000 with a degree in Material Science and Engineering. After college, Derek relocated to Massachusetts to work as an engineer for Texas Instruments. In 2004, Derek and his family moved to Florida where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Florida. His first career in real estate was with a small startup developer in Orlando. While there Derek acted as the Development Manager responsible for acquisition, permitting and owner representation during construction for a number of projects in Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee. Wanting to always come back to the Boston area Derek found an opportunity to come back in 2012 with Toll Brothers as a Project Manager. He was responsible for the largest project in the division (276 units with a mix of town-homes, condos, and single family homes). As the project manager Derek managed a number of superintendents and over 100 subcontractor personnel daily.
Currently Derek is a Project Executive for Campanelli Construction and has worked on their Ashland Apartment Project, a 398 unit project adjacent to the train station, a 29 Unit apartment complex in Boston, several office buildings and a day care center in Quincy. Derek’s role is to manage the construction team along with representing the owner’s interest on these projects. Along with his work experience, he has recently built 2 new homes in Natick (46 Marion St in 2015, and 54 Speen Street in 2017) with the help of his partner Britton. Derek and Britton were general contractors for these projects, contracting, managing and supervising the construction of the homes.
